Having proven itself in theaters such as Iraq and Afghanistan, Northrop Grumman's Global Hawk has a strong reputation of flying the unfriendly skies. Last year the versatile unmanned aircraft was pressed into service on a mission whose potential dangers were unlike any other - flying directly into the heart of a hurricane. NASA's Genesis and Rapid Intensification Process (GRIP) mission was designed to study the creation and rapid intensification of hurricanes.
