Mobile phones have advanced considerably over the past decade; what was once merely a communications device has become everything from a diary and TV remote control, to a gateway to multimedia content. With bigger screens, better processing and the introduction of mobile apps for OTT platforms, it's no surprise that consumption of video on smartphones and mobile devices has risen. According to one eMar-keter report, over 75 per cent of total worldwide video consumption occurs on mobile devices. The figure is smaller when it comes to OTT subscription platforms, but 20 per cent of Netflix viewing occurs on smartphones with 50 per cent of customers logging in from mobile devices once a month. But is it actually possible to bring the big screen to the small screen and replicate a similar experience? They are two very different things: cinemas and TVs bring a stable, quality viewing experience, whereas a viewing experience on a smartphone or other mobile devices, like a tablet, can be temperamental and inconsistent. Let's compare each factor of the big screen with the reality of viewing on mobile.
