AUDIO DEVELOPMENTS AS A PREDICTOR OF VIDEO DEVELOPMENTS

Broadcast engineers often observe that while audio is a small portion of the total solution, it is a disproportionate amount of the engineering challenge. Empirical evidence for the technical challenges of audio is available in Devoncroft s annual Big Broadcast Survey (BBS). Most audio product categories have end-user purchase evaluations driven by technical performance as opposed to other factors such as cost savings or operational efficiency. Such a technical emphasis is as good an explanation as any for why the audio segment of the industry addresses certain engineering issues sooner.
