Seli moves ESA ahead

Tunnelling is underway on New York's East Side Access (ESA) project with subcontractor Seli's TBM making progress on the eastbound running tube for the main contractor, a joint venture of Dragados and local firm Judlau. The double shield began boring late September with a preliminary configuration in a start-up tunnel smaller in diameter than that to be bored. Progress has been building steadily from early this month following the final backup configuration being put in place. By mid November the TBM, a refurbished original Robbins, had advanced approximately 215m, said the client, the Capital Construction Co of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTACC).
