Concepts for a major tunnel scheme that would run between the peninsulas of Korea and China, at Weihai, have been aired in the midst of the recent elections in South Korea. The concept plans are being prepared by the provincial government of Gyeonggi, South Korea, which holds about a fifth of the country's population. Gyeonggi is reported to have submitted its suggestions for the tunnel to the transition group set up by South Korea's newly elected president, Lee Myung-bak, who takes office in late February.
