Not so revolutionary

I refer to the article in T&TI July 2010 (pp41 -42 'Segment fibre reinforcement in Barcelona') and am surprised that the use of steel fibre reinforcement only is considered as 'a revolutionary step' by the writer.rnI was privileged to work on the CTRL tunnels for the Project Representative team and was closely involved with both the contractors and the project/design team, led by the very competent Eddie Woods. All the main tunnel segments for these 7.15m. i.d. tunnels were pre-cast concrete fibre-reinforced units also incorporating polypropylene fibres for fire resistance and to the best of my knowledge continue to perform well in the tunnels.
