Ohio's largest TBM ready to get digging

Crews with the Northeast Ohio Regional District lowered the 27ft (8m) diameter Herrenknecht TBM in place to excavate the 5.5km Euclid Creek Storage Tunnel this summer. It took several hours to position the machine down the 61m shaft to prepare for boring. The TBM launches on a very curvy alignment through chagrin shale bedrock and will vary between depths of 58 and 67m deep. The geology has a typical UCI of 69MPa.
