Confederation Line tunnel makes early milestone on time

Canada Mining of the 2.5km tunnel for the Confederation Line Light Rail Transit project is proceeding on time and on budget with 10 per cent of the tunnel excavation now complete, Transport Canada announced on February 5. At the West Portal in LeBreton Flats, a roadheader has carved out 228m of tunnel and is currently digging under Queen Street just west of Bay Street. At the East Portal near Ottawa and Laurier Avenue East, a second roadheader has mined 22m towards Rideau Street.
