By the end of 2014, the £570 million Phase 2 of Nottingham's tram expansion project will see another 1 7.5km of track and 28 new tram stops added to the network. And Lanes will have played a part in facilitating that by reinforcing sewers to withstand the weight of the trams overhead. However, a standalone contract to line the main sewer on University Boulevard proved to be a real test for the team. The dual carriageway carries the main sewer feed through to Severn Trent Water's (STW) Toton Wastewater Treatment Works. Lanes was commissioned to line 701-metres of the 750mm diameter combined sewer. But that also meant operating in the middle of the huge tram construction project run by Vinci (a Taylor Woodrow Alstom Joint Venture).
