Wind energy is attractive for many reasons, not least of which is that it is a domestically produced product that is both clean and renewable. The concept has been embraced in the United States, where many of the world's largest wind farms are located. These facilities, however, are entirely land based. When it comes to development of offshore wind fields and associated technologies, the European and Scandinavian nations are the recognized leaders.
