Advanced Stainless Steel for Automotive Exhaust Gas System

摘要

Higher heat resistance and improved formability are increasingly demanded to materials used for automotive exhaust manifolds in order to meet stricter emission regulations. This paper describes (1)one method of improving the thermal fatigue property, which is an essential requirement to the exhaust manifolds, (2)properties of the newly developed Type 429Nb and SUS444 stainless steel in comparison with the conventional SUH409L, and (3)the effectiveness of higher r-values in improving pipe formability.
