The changing role of the transport engineer: Reflections on a revised focus

This paper provides a reflection on the changing role of the traffic engineer, who will increasingly have to gain a greater understanding of the economic, social and psychological barriers to sustainable solutions for urban and non-urban Australia, while maintaining the fundamental traffic skills. This will require a major rethink of the syllabi in universities and even whether transport engineering is best placed to remain in civil engineering.
