摘要

What should happen to vehicles that have not been used for a period of time? Although the description 'vehicle off road (VOR)' has become an industry standard, the rules about VOR vehicles are not especially clear. On p36, The Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness says: "If a vehicle has been off the road for a period longer than the planned maintenance inspections, it should be given a full safety inspection prior to being brought back into use. A note must be placed on the vehicle maintenance file to show the vehicle has been off the road." Whereas, seven pages later, it says: "Vehicles that are only used for part of the year, or that have been out of service for some time, should be inspected before they are brought back into service." It is easy to see where confusion can arise. On the one hand, it says that inspections are required of vehicles that have been VOR for beyond the PMI period; on the other hand, it also says that they should be inspected after being out of service for 'some time', without quantifying that period.
