The latest exhaust after-treatment device developed by Johnson Matthey, the huge catalyst and chemicals group, is being described by the company's top engineer as "a technological leap in diesel emission control that will help make truck and bus diesel engines as clean as the very latest passenger cars." Speaking last month at a Society of Automotive Engineers conference in Detroit, Barry Cooper, technology vice president at Johnson Matthey's catalytic systems division, said: "The SCRT may be evolutionary rather than revolutionary but the effect on diesel exhaust emissions is stunning nonetheless. It's still early days, but we're within the European stage-5 limits and all but meet the latest proposals for the US 2007 emissions regulations, when combined with sulphur-free fuel."
