Who says nostalgia is not what it used to be? Probably not most bus and coach engineers and certainly not the organisers of the Euro Bus Expo 2008 show, being held next month (4-6 November) in halls four and five of Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre. Alongside the latest in bus and coach technology will be a "ten decades of the bus" display sponsored by Belmont Insurance and including a quartet of vintage vehicles which seems certain to turn as many heads as the latest sleek Plaxton coach body. Centrepiece of the display is a fully-restored 1908 Leyland X2. It will be joined by a 1913 Leyland ST "combination car" single-decker in Barnsley & District Electric Traction colours; a 1914 Leyland Torpedo charabanc; and a 1923 Leyland SG7 40-seater which used to be operated by Brookes Bros (White Rose) of Rhyl, north Wales. All four vehicles are being loaned by Mike and Pat Sutcliffe of Bedfordshire. Mr Sutcliffe is a chartered accountant who is well known for his painstaking restorations of vintage vehicles. He was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2004 for services to motor heritage.
