New MetroRail Update

Work is steadily progressing on the early stages of the Southern Suburbs Railway (SSR) from Perth to Mandurah and work also is nearing completion on the Northern Suburbs Railway (NSR) extension to Clarkson under Perth's New MetroRail Project (NMR). This report updates progress; see previous article and map in TA 4/04 and Transit Newsfile in TA 5/04 and 7/04. The NMR project is responsible for the construction of 15 new stations, extensions or upgrades to eight other stations, the construction of 20 bridges and structures, 81.5km of track and associated infrastructure, and the manufacture of 93 new electric multiple unit railcars.
