With two publicity-driven and highly publicised events over the past year, but little actual work being seen 'on the ground', work now seems about to start in earnest on Victoria's Regional Fast Rail (RFR) project involving the Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong and Gippsland (Traralgon) lines. Standing alongside the new Epping-Chatswood line in Sydney and the new Perth-Mandurah railway in terms of cost and complexity, RFR is the biggest track upgrade project under way in Australia. This is a brief update on progress and canvasses some of the issues surrounding the project.
