On 14 May the NSW Government held a briefing of major private sector contractors and suppliers to provide an overview of the project and to outline the process for industry consultations and market soundings. The NSW Government is still saying that they will fund and construct the project. As part of the initial Product Definition phase outlined in March, work will be ongoing to develop the North West Metro Product Definition Report and Project Delivery Strategy due for completion in November. As part of this process, the NSW Government will undertake structured industry consultations and market soundings with organizations capable of entering into contracts with the NSW Government for: operations and safety; construction; rolling stock; rail systems and procurement packaging. The Government also outlined the concept of "shadow operator" and the national and international search which will be undertaken to fulfil the role.
