I read with interest in TA July 2009 (page 198) about the measures being implemented to provide faster, more reliable bus journeys through the Sydney CBD which is a worthwhile ongoing aim. As a regular user of State Transit services in this area, I have identified several proposals that could be the subject of further review by key stakeholders to assist in achieving this objective:rn1. York Street, Queen Victoria Building (QVB): this is an acknowledged hot spot that delays bus departures exiting the city. Although there is nominally no entry for private car'through traffic'on this section of York Street, beyond the Market Street intersection, these vehicles do in fact add to congestion in this area.This is chiefly due to cars exiting the QVB's underground carpark or to a lesser extent, vehicles entering York Street, from Mullins Street. All of which needs to feed on to Druitt Street, near Sydney Town Hall.
