Passengers began using the first five Circle Line stations on 28 May after a ceremonial opening of the first 5·7 km segment of the line the previous day.The line is being built in five phases, which will form a 33·3 km horseshoe from DhobyGhautto HarbourFront.Sixofthe 29 stations will provide interchanges to the existing radial metro lines, improving inter-suburban journeys by enabling passengers to bypass the city centre.The initial section runs between Bartley and Marymount, with interchanges with the North-South Line at Bishan and the North-East Line at Serangoon.
