Fare evasion estimates suggest that one in ten public transport users is travelling without a valid ticket or on an improperly used concession.rncosting more than $62 million in a six month period last year. On the trams about $35 million was lost in ticket sales in the first half of 2009, $5.5 million from buses and $21.5 million from trains. It was suggested that on the Dandenong and Frankston lines about 11 % failed to buy a ticket. A Metlink survey suggested fare evaders cost taxpayers $212 million between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2008.
