The current Victorian Government has made a commitment to an extensive program of grade separations on the metropolitan rail network. If completed, this will have a significant impact on the operations of both Melbourne's road and rail network and increase the reliability and punctuality of the public transport system. However, it will require the completion of the grade separations at Springvale and Mitcham and the funding commitment for work on the additional projects before the next State election in November 2014 to ensure the ongoing implementation of this program, and more than just another set of election promises.
