Sri Lanka Colombo

Colombo is the largest city and the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Sri Lanka. The city is on the western coast of the island towards the south and only seven degrees north of the equator. Colombo is a major port and has a population of approximately 700,000. The population of Sri Lanka is 20.8m. The city has suburban and interurban bus services with the rail service an interurban operation, as within the suburban area on the three routes out of the city there are only about 15 stations. The rail track gauge is 1676mm and DMU trains operate the interurban services. The other cities in Sri Lanka are relatively small with all urban public transport by bus.
