With the exception of New South Wales the suburban and interurban railway operators in Australia have opted for 23 m single deck cars, generally with two double entrance doors; except that in Melbourne most of the 23 m cars have three entrance vestibules. The new single deck longitudinal seating cars in Sydney will follow Melbourne in having three doors and be 23 m; however, the future Outer Suburban cars to replace the Interurban fleet will be 20 m double deck cars similar to the existing Outer Suburban cars.
