摘要

In this research, the optimum design methods for the material handling system of a seaport container terminal are investigated. In the present paper, the optimum design for container yard using straddle carriers system is discussed. The analytical expressions for traveling distances and times of staddle carrier are derived from the analysis of shipping and receiving and delivery operation. These expressions describe the arrangement of containers, block size and stacks height for stowage yard and the traveling types of straddle carrier. The arrangement type is perpendicular or parallel to wharf line, and the traveling type is switchback or passing through. As these results the optimum design curves to minimize a traveling time of straddle carrier are proposed. It is confirmed that the case of perpendicular layout and switchback traveling type is most effective for shipping operation. Furthermore, in case of over 1 000 TEU, higher stacks are more effective rather than more ground slots.
