In machining operation, cutting and grinding fluids are generally used for cooling and lubricating workpieces at the point of cutting. These fluids often contain sulfur, phosphorus, chlorine or other such extreme-pressure additives to improve the lubricating performance. These chemicals present health hazards. This paper describes the results of a study of a new turning method (Cooling Air Turning System). It eliminates hazardous conventional cutting fluid, provides a high turning performance.
