Omitting the deposition/resuspension effects significantly overestimates the downstream radionuclide peak concentration. For the case of cesium transport on the Fourmile Branch, the calculated peak concentration reductions between the calculations with and without sediment deposition increase as the cesium is transported downstream. The reduction is 18% near Road E, and the reduction increases to 72% at Road C-4. Road C-4 is about 5 km downstream from the release point. The difference would be very significant when the cesium transports to Savannah, Georgia, 242 km downstream from the H-Area outfall. Therefore, the STREAM Ⅱ model will be upgraded to account for the sedimentation effects on cesium aqueous transport.
