The University of Wisconsin Nuclear Reactor (UWNR) is a 1 MW TRIGA reactor that fulfills a dual mission of education and research. In support of current and future irradiation experiments, as well as possible modifications to the core itself, an MCNP5 core model has been created for the fresh FLIP fuel core loaded in 1979 and compared to measured data from that time. Although this same core configuration has been in operation since then, it is necessary to develop an updated core model that includes the effects of burnup. This work discusses two complementary approaches to developing a burned core model.
