Nuclear Power Plant Qualified Halogen Free Cables

Halogen free cables qualified for application in nuclear power plants (NPP) have been developed, following Canadian and US standards. The absence of halogen is absolutely required on all recently constructed NPP and in particular for the Chinese market, although not yet included in US specifications according to our knowledge. This characteristic, coupled with good fire propagation behavior, leads to less smoke and non-toxic, non-corrosive gas emission in case of a fire. This represents an important security increase. First experience on Canadian and US type NPP is available. The importance of this characteristic is demonstrated and test results are given.
