In the last 5 years, there has been a growth in interest in the use of high-temperature (700 to 1000℃) molten fluoride salts as fuels and coolants for different functions in nuclear systems. This interest is a consequence of new applications for the development of new reactor concepts. These salts have melting points between 310 and 550℃; thus, they are of use only in high-temperature systems. These salts are being considered for intermediate heat transport loops between all types of high-temperature reactors (helium and salt cooled) and hydrogen production systems. There is also a developing interest to use molten salt fluorides in the pyrochemistry for actinides separation to improve- nuclear waste management from current or advanced nuclear fuels. Last, molten salt reactor (MSR), with the circulating fuel, is revisited, particularly, because of the interest in actinide burning, where molten salt actinide recycler & transmuter (MOSART) avoid the need to transport and fabricate fuel of highly active and heat generating actinides.
