The recent widespread use of the spark plasma sintering (SPS) method has been motivated by reports of special accomplishments not attainable by conventional sintering methods. The process, which utilizes pulsed high DC current along with uniaxial pressure to consolidate powders, is shown schematically in Figure 1.
