In industry, the predictability of the critical heat flux (CHF) is crucial to understanding thermal hydraulic processes and to maintain safe operation of industrial plants especially in nuclear power plants which are characterized by relatively high heat fluxes. Extensive efforts in the past have worked to derive critical heat flux correlations. Few of which are mechanistic based and developed for low flow conditions. Here efforts are focused on the development of a vertical low flow mechanistic CHF correlation based on a micro-scale force balance attached to a heated surface.
