Development of Attribute Framework and Tool to Support Evaluation of Attributes of Advanced Nuclear Systems

As nuclear energy continues to be vital to energy production in the United States and the world, work continued to be done to select, evaluate, and demonstrate advanced nuclear systems for use in the future. For example, the Generation Ⅳ International Forum (GIF) was formed as a multinational group dedicated to conducting research, demonstration, and development (RD&D) on Generation Ⅳ (GEN Ⅳ) reactor systems (also known as advanced nuclear systems). These consist of the next generation of nuclear systems which are planned to reach technical maturity by 2030. After development of these systems, it will be the electric utilities who will implement and operation of advanced nuclear systems. To aid electric utilities in their evaluation and selection of appropriate advanced nuclear systems for use, EPRI, in conjunction with Vanderbilt University, is developing an Attribute Decision Framework and Tool. The purpose for this development is to aid electric utilities to the prioritization of attributes that are most important in the implementation of advanced nuclear systems without comparing specific technologies head-to-head. The term attribute in this work relates to characteristics or inherent aspects relating to advanced nuclear systems.
