Considerations for Early-Stage Safety Assessments for Advanced Reactor Designs

Considerations to help guide developers to maximize efficiency during early stage safety assessment have been discussed. Using examples such as the ones presented above, a preliminary identification of appropriate ranges of TRL values to exercise various PHA methods (e.g., What-If, HAZOP study, FMEA), use various consequence metrics (e.g., quantitative source term estimate, mean dose at Exclusion Area Boundary), and perform various frequency estimates (e.g., qualitative binning, Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty) will be developed for presentation at the ANS Winter Meeting.
