Trains magazine's 2011 Preservation Award of $10,000 went to the Virginia Museum of Transportation for the cosmetic restoration of Norfolk & Western Bicentennial diesel locomotive No. 1776. The project will ensure that this significant forerunner of today's modern high-horsepower freight locomotives shines in a dazzling coat of fresh red, white, and blue paint by the time of the nation's 236th birthday on July 4, 2012.
