It is something you need to bear in mind if you are commissioning traffic surveys. There was a time when traffic surveys were not undertaken lightly. Today they are ubiquitous. It is not just the proliferation of traffic schemes that accounts for their growing numbers. In relative terms, costs have come down and the processing technology that supports the survey has developed quickly. While even a few years ago vehicle by vehicle recording was considered a specialist option, with the advent of cheap memory and high speed processing, the almost limitless analysis possibilities of this recording method is making it the preferred option for many contractors.
