CAVEAT EMPTOR: LET THE BUYER BEWARE! UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN GENUINE AND SPURIOUS SPARE PARTS

Many compressed air users will reach a cross roads when it comes to replacing the consumables in their compressed air system. That being do they choose the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) genuine spare parts or do they try and save a few dollars and buy non-genuine spare parts or 'spurious parts'. The lifetime of the compressor, its overall performance and reliability as well as its maintenance requirements will all be impacted by this decision. Drawing from case study examples, Peter Eckberg, Managing Director of KAESER Compressors NZ, explains the detrimental effects he has witnessed over the years to compressed air systems, where non-genuine spare parts have been used, as well as highlighting the benefits that can be realised by choosing genuine spare parts.
