Clutching her mug of steaming coffee, our colleague flicks on her smartPad to check that her planned journey to the airport is OK. Last night she had used a journey planner to check the best options (planned disruptions, time, cost) for the journey to the airport, finishing by registering to receive through journey updates. The smartPad chimes and an information message is displayed regarding her journey. The bus she planned to catch is currently running up to 5-minutes late due to overnight emergency road works causing traffic delays, but at present the interchange connections are secure - she will make the railway station in time for her local train connection to the airport - hence the information only message. 'I am pleased it didn't wake me up just to tell me that', she murmurs to herself as she reaches for her coat. Last week a travel update had woken her 30-minutes early. The system had advised that due to major travel network disruption she should take an earlier service for her daily trip to work ... but then she had got to the office on time . . . and made that important meeting which she wouldn't have done otherwise so she shouldn't complain.
