Cybersquatting hits record levels

The number of complaints lodged with a government agency about cybersquatting surged 20% to 2,156 last year. The World Intellectual Property Organisation has announced that cybersquatting has increased by almost 50% since 2005, with the United States, France and the United Kingdom lodging the most complaints. Trademarkrnholders win the majority of complaints (85%) that are not settled without a WIPO panel decision and have the domain name handed over to them. Fifteen percent of cases, however, are rejected.
