No national or state legislation requires U.S. airport operators to prepare inventories of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A few airports have generated inventories either voluntarily or at the request of municipalities, often in conjunction with state and local initiatives to mitigate climate change. Sacramento InternationalrnAirport and San Diego International Airport, for example, prepared inventories to assist with the analysis of proposed airport improvements under the California Environmental Quality Act. With no national legislative mandates, however, no clear guidance is available for developing airport-specific inventories.
