Noise and Vibration Reduction of Newly Developed 2AZ-FE Engine

In response to demand for vehicle quality and dynamic performance as well as increasing concern about resource consumption, the 2AZ-FE engine, which is the successor to the highest grade in-line 4-cylinder engine for passenger vehicles ever at the Toyota Motor Corporation, the 5S-FE, has been developed aiming to achieve not only significant weight reduction but also top-of-the-class fuel efficiency, dynamic performance, and quietness. Overall increases in engine output and reduced weight are often a cause of power plant vibration and engine firing noise, but noise and vibration (NV) countermeasures such as a rigid power plant construction, were incorporated in the 2AZ-FE, which made it possible to achieve the NV target values and to improve engine noise characteristics.
