All events have impacts and it is therefore not surprising that the academic study of events and event management has long focused on the impacts or consequences of events. There are gaps in the literature on event management and Exploring the Social Impacts of Events is a much-needed addition to the book series on advances in event research as well as to the literature on events and tourism. This volume is a compendium of independently researched studies by scholars in the area of events. It is the first book to explore the different social aspects of events, focusing in particular on the role of events in social cohesion, developing social capital and participation in local communities.
