Vectrons for Denmark

Danish State Railways (DSB) has ordered 26 Siemens Vectrons capable of 200 km/h, with an option for up to 18 more; Bombardier and Skoda, the other two builders that pre-qualified, did not produce a final bid. The locos will be able to operate in both Denmark and Germany, being equipped for 15 kV and 25 kV AC; Siemens will be required to obtain the necessary approvals before delivery. Maintenance will mainly be the responsibility of Siemens for the first ten years, with an option for a further five, but DSB's maintenance division will have a subsidiary role. The locos will enter service from 2021 on and will mainly operate in push-pull mode with the 113 double-deck coaches east of the Store Baelt. However, there is now a fear that a shortage of resources may delay the fitting of the on-board equipment required for the new ETCS signalling to the driving trailers.
