DB to withdraw Class 611 fleet this year

DB Regio is planning to withdraw all remaining Class 611 tilt-equipped DMUs this year, with withdrawals beginning in earnest in April as a combination of replacement trains (mainly cascaded Class 644 and 612 DMUs) plus major engineering work for electrification - effectively closing several lines for months in southern Germany thereby reducing the number of DMUs needed - means the Class 611 trains are no longer required. Assuming the new fleets of PESA LINK DMUs on order for DB Regio enter service during 2018 (it remains unclear it will happen) the resulting cascade of the DMU fleet will see all of the Class 611 DMUs withdrawn.
