Stadler has won an order from Swiss metre gauge operator MOB for 20 variable gauge panoramic coaches designed by Pininfarina (eight Type Ast first class driving trailers, four Type A first class, two Type B second class, three Type WR restaurant cars and three coaches which will interface with BLS vehicles) for the extension of the Montreux-Zweisimmen (metre gauge) Golden Pass service to Interlaken (standard gauge), to be known as Golden Pass Express, from December 2020. Variable-gauge bogies will be supplied by Alstom for the new coaches but also for some stock already in service with MOB. This will allow the creation of three seven-coach sets with first class driving trailers at each end. Trains will be hauled by an MOB Class 9000 EMU from Montreux to Zweisimmen then pushed by a BLS loco from there to Interlaken, the opposite taking place in the southbound direction. The gauge-changing installations at Zweisimmen are nearly complete and will be tested with prototype vehicles later this year.
