Excellent results for SNCB in 2017

2017 brought a new record number of passengers for Belgian Railways (SNCB). Domestic traffic rose 3.6% to 235.3 million passengers (10.167 billion passenger-km). This trend is continuing, with 3.1% more passengers in the first three months of 2018. International passenger numbers rose by 5.7% to 3.03 million. SNCB says this is the result of its commercial strategy directed not only at commuter traffic but also to attract more leisure passengers. The numbers of passengers to and from Brussels airport were impressive - a quarter of all passengers (4.8 million) arrived at or left the airport by train, despite having to pay the "Diabolo" surcharge.
