Op-Ed: Japan Tobacco Challenges Thailand's Cigarette Packaging Law

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) considers that the increase of graphic health warnings from 55 percent up to 85 percent of both sides of cigarettes packets in Thailand-a requirement mandated by the Notification issued in April 2013 by the Government of Thailand's Ministry of Public Health-will ban the effective use of brands and key trademarks on the packaging of cigarettes. In order to protect its ability to continue to use its brands and key trade marks in Thailand,JTI has initiated a legal challenge against this Notification.
