Threads Design Challenge VIII: Sophisticated sportswear with an ethnic accent

If you're tired of basic black, you're ready for the Challenge Threads presented to designers Sandy Scrivano, Pamela Ptak, and Peggy Sagers last summer. Each quickly said she was thrilled to be asked and eager to create clothes to fulfill the scenario- only to be chastened when she saw and handled the fabrics. But what's a challenge if it doesn't bring out your cleverest thinking? When the designers presented their solutions at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Minneapolis last November, Threads contributing editor Susan Allen and I were awed, and the audience sat in rapt attention, then burst into applause.
