As part of an initiative launched July 2007 to increase the tech-nological level of companies operating in the «Apparel - Personal Goods» sector, the Institut Catho-lique d'Arts et Metiers (Icam) and the Groupement des Industries de l'Habillement (GIH) noted a genuine demand for fabrics made from natural fibres with innovative technical characteristics. And so it was that, in association with 4 Spanish and Portuguese partners, they decided,in February 2008, to submit a European project (Fibnatex) which was accepted for Feder funding (75 % of the overall budget), with the Midi-Pyrenees Regional Council satisfying the country-level funding criterion by financing the GIH and Icam budgets.
