This pocket-sized book is best regarded as a concise encyclopaedia of the plastic surgeon's world. The author admits in the preface that itrnis not designed as an exhaustive text but despite this it provides a great breadth of knowledge. Information has been provided in four broad categories: the conditions that the plastic surgeon will treat or commonly encounter, operations and techniques, diagnostic tests and basic sciences. It also contains all the classification systems and staging systems a plastic surgeon will come across. The information is presented in a succinct bullet point format and, while this does not attempt to make the reader an expert, it provides more than sufficientrninformation to allow for understanding of concepts and application of techniques. The sizes of the entries vary appropriately with larger entries over several pages for the more commonly encountered operations and conditions. Such larger entries are broken down into subsections, e.g. oral cavity reconstruction is divided into anatomy, specific sites, surgical approach, techniques, complications and specific flaps. It covers all aspects of plastic surgery and certainly goes beyond that of the plastic surgical syllabus.
